GMC identified as the regulator for Medical Associate Professionals
The Faculty welcomes the decision that the General Medical Council has been identified as the regulator for Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs). Whilst there are benefits to this outcome, including ensuring that all working to a medical rota are regulated under a unified model, it is more important that a decision has been made and the long running work of MAPs can progress.
At present, this does not include Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCPs). Whilst we continue to investigate the MAP with Health Education England (HEE) with our ACCP members to ensure it is the most beneficial route for this essential profession in terms of both support and overall role growth, it will be helpful that more hard detail will emerge over the next 18-24mths as the GMC scopes this work and the necessary legislation changes are made. We look forward to engaging with HEE, the GMC and the Departments of Health going forward.
