Andy Georgiou
Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, Bath. Clinical Director, South West Critical Care Network

Dr Andy Georgiou is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, the Clinical Director for the South-West Critical Care Network, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol. He trained in the South-West of the UK and in Australia where he worked on the Sydney air ambulance. He is the lead consultant for ACCPs in Bath and is a member of the FICM ACCP Subcommittee. He is passionate about supporting ACCPs who have become an integral part of working life for many units in the South-West.  

Carole Boulanger
Consultant Nurse / ACCP from the Royal Devon & University NHS Foundation Trust. ACCP representative to FICM Board.

Carole has been involved in the development of the ACCP role since its’ pilot for the New Ways of Working in Critical Care. Alongside practising as an ACCP in her ICU Carole has been involved in developing the role nationally working with FICM to develop the core curriculum and syllabus for  ACCPs. 

Ed Birkhamshaw
Consultant in Infectious Disease & General Medicine at UHBirmingham

Ed is a medical consultant & member of the national Civility Saves Lives group; campaigning to raise awareness of the impact of our behaviour on patient outcomes in medical care & the importance of effective teamworking & psychological safety in medicine. 

Gregor McNeill
Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, NHS Lothian

Gregor McNeill is a full time Intensive Care Medicine Consultant at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He is co-chair of the ACCP Subcommittee (ASC). He has been involved in all 3 of the ASC Accreditation visits to date. Out with his involvement in the FICM ACCP programme, Gregor has an interest in Patient Deterioration prior to Critical Care admission. Outside Medicine he has twin loves for both Dundee United and Norwich City football teams. 

Dr Helen Oliver
Consultant Radiologist, Royal United Hospitals Bath

Helen underwent Radiology training at the Norwich Radiology Academy and in Severn Deanery. She has been a consultant at the RUH since 2019 where she is the Radiology lead for ICU and ED. She has been a committee member for the British Society of Emergency Radiology since 2022.  Helen also has a subspecialty interest in Gynaecological imaging, and was part of the faculty at the British Society for Urogynaecological Radiology conference in 2024. Helen enjoys teaching and training, and is a supervisor to Foundation and Radiology resident doctors. 

Kate Allen
Group Lead Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, Humber Health Group, Hull

As Lead ACCP at Humber Health Group, Kate oversees 18 ACCPs across four hospitals, ensuring high standards and effective collaboration. Over the past six years, she has played a key role on the ACCP SubCommittee, shaping policies and procedures, and contributing to developing Equivalence and Additional Advanced Skills Frameworks. Her work includes reviewing the curriculum and CPD/ appraisal documents and constantly pushing for professional growth for ACCPs. Outside of work, she enjoys long walks with her husband and dog, spending time outdoors, and indulging in creative pursuits. Her dedication at work and passion for life outside the hospital set her apart as a leader.

Louise Houslip Award

This year will be the 3rd annual Louise Houslip Award and FICM are now accepting Poster Presentation submissions for the FICM ACCP Conference on 19 June 2025.

We are giving ACCP teams a chance to present their research, audit, case reports and practice innovations, that demonstrate progression in the world of ACCPs and Critical Care. Your presentation will be displayed at the conference and the poster deemed to be the best by the committee will be the winner of the Louise Houslip Award and awarded at the Conference.
