These skills complement the traditional four core competences in Emergency Medicine Ultrasound of extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (e-FAST), assessment of the Abdominal Aorta for Aneurysm (AAA), focused Echocardiography in Life Support (ELS) and Vascular Access.

Target audience:
All clinicians interested in Point of Care Ultrasound

Aims:

  • Gain competences in the four core domains of POCUS recommended by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine 2021 guidelines.

Pre-course learning:

  • Learn at your own pace with our comprehensive e-learning module that will be available one month before the course.

Methodology:

  • Hands-on only course, 4.5 hours of scanning in small groups (max 3 candidates per group)
  • Special emphasis on focussed echo
  • Simulation based teaching
  • Skill stations on peripheral + central vein vascular access and fascia iliaca block

Post-course mentorship:
Possibility of hiring a Butterfly IQ probe and enrolling onto remote mentorship (REsUS initiative). Info on https://pocusfrimley.org/
