This job plan was developed between the ICU and palliative care departments having recognized the value of an intensivist with an interest in palliative medicine. Palliative care sessions involve working with the hospital specialist palliative care advisory team working with palliative care patients across the hospital. In return for this time palliative care team provide enhanced support for the ICU including palliative care consultant time when needed.
PAs for weekday OOH working and “payback” sessions for ICU cover annualized which gives flexibility. Payback sessions enable the unit to have consistent cover without need for locum cover.

Support was given through clinical service leads both in palliative care and ICU. Starting conversations early was really valuable as this gave time to organize a dual role and the logistics of this. Understanding a typical job plan was really helpful in envisioning what my job plan could look like.
