Research projects being undertaken within this Unit:

Unit participated/ participating/ setting up on TRIAL 65, ISARIC-CCP-UK, GENOMICC, REGAIN, REMAP-CAP, UK-ROX, PROTECT trial, MORF-UK

QIP- Sodium load in ICU (completed with outcome)

QIP- Review of citrate as a regional anticoagulation for RRT (completed with outcome)

QIP- blood glucose management in ICU (completed with outcome)

QIP- review of invasive ventilation in theatres and ICU

Regular participations on WICNARC, national projects and studies.

Overview of the staffing for the Unit (including medical, ACCP, AHPs)
  • Split Consultant’s rota for ICM and Anaesthetics
  • Two Consultants during a working day on unit, one out of hours
  • Two on call doctors covering unit during 24 hrs (12hrs shifts), mix of staff grade doctors, Anaesthetic and ICM trainees.
  • Day time FY Doctors helping in unit
  • IMT trainees joining unit during their block
  • SAS from other specialties during their placement

Training

Training opportunities when working at this Unit:
  • Training in point of care ultrasound 
  • Opportunity to attend theatre for airway experience 
  • Exposure to paediatric emergencies
  • Interhospital transfers 
  • Acting up as an ICM Consultant (for Stage 3 trainees)

  • Departmental CG are monthly, M&M and JC are currently incorporated into it.
  • In process of setting up separate ICM-M&M meetings and JC.
