Research projects being undertaken within this Unit:

The medical ICU is experiencing a rise in clinical and translational research, focusing on acute myocardial infarction with cardiogenic shock, echocardiography for critically ill patients, and muscle weakness due to critical illness. Additionally, we are currently enrolling patients in clinical trials related to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock including STEP-CARE and NEAT-ECHO.

Overview of the staffing for the Unit (including medical, ACCP, AHPs)

On weekdays during the day, the medical ICU will be staffed with at least two long-day and two short-day doctors/staff. Of these, two will be middle-grade doctors trained in airway management, accompanied by two junior-grade staff members. There will be one middle-grade and one junior-grade doctor during nighttime and weekends. The junior-grade doctors consist of internal medicine trainees and advanced critical care practitioners. Meanwhile, the middle-grade medical ICU doctors include intensive care trainees, CESR fellows in anaesthesia and intensive care, and senior clinical fellows.

In the surgical units, staffing during the daytime will consist of three middle-grade doctors trained in airway management and three junior-grade staff members, including junior clinical fellows, internal medicine trainees, and ACCPs. At night and on weekends, the units will have two middle-grade airway-trained doctors and one junior-grade staff supervised by a senior middle-grade doctor. The middle-grade staff in the surgical units are drawn from anaesthesia trainees, clinical fellows, and intensive care trainees and fellows.
