Overview of the staffing for the Unit (including medical, ACCP, AHPs)
  • 1 x Consultant, 1x SpR, 2/3 x CT1/2s, 1x IMT trainee, 1 x FY1 trainee (no ACCPS/AHPs)
Training
Training opportunities when working at this Unit:
  • Training in point of care ultrasound 
  • Opportunity to attend theatre for airway experience 
  • Exposure to paediatric emergencies
  • Interhospital transfers (although "elective" transfers increasingly provided by Transfer teams, we still send trainees on time-critical transfers)
  • Opportunity to attend a Cardiac Catheterisation lab Potentially - no primary PCI on this site but we have elective angioplasty and trainees could potentially go across to Worthing for this

  • Acting up as an ICM Consultant (for Stage 3 trainees) 
  • Other: Fusic Heart mentors and supervisor on site, Palliative Care connections, Education / Siumulation leads within the department

Departmental Teaching:
  • Currently ad hoc daily ward round teaching and daily Afternoon Education sessions for ITU MDT
  • Monthly ITU teaching days including simulation-based training
  • Planning for weekly protected ITU teaching during ITU morning to include “Topic of the week”, Journal Club review, ITU teaching and governance discussions

Details of clinical governance meeting days and/or M & M:                             

  • Currently ITU M&M every other month during whole day Clinical Governance with plans for fortnightly / monthly M&M integrated into protected ITU morning
The medical specialties and subspecialties it is possible to complete within theTrust/Health Board:
  • Stage 1:  Emergency Medicine, Medicine & Anaesthesia
