JUNIOR MEDICAL STAFF Specialist Trainees in cardiothoracic anaesthesia: 8 Fellows in cardiothoracic anaesthesia: 2 Fellows/MTIs in Intensive Care: 3 Fellows in ICM / ECMO: 2 ECMO SSYs: 2 Internal Medical trainees: 5 Foundation Year 2 trainees: 2 Foundation Year 1 trainees: 2 Advanced Critical Care Practitioners/tACCP: 5 Non-Consultant rota: All training levels of junior staff from ST3 to ST7 are allocated training attachments of 3 months to Glenfield Hospital by the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia. Compliant resident rotas are run covering Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Out of hours cover is provided by 3 resident on call rotas supervised by three separate non-resident consultants in Anaesthesia, in ECMO and in Intensive Care. AICU (non-ECMO) Consultant rota: 'The unit has programmed resident consultant cover, seven days per week from 07.45 to 21.00hrs. There is non- resident cover by a single consultant from 21.00 to 07.45hrs. Two consultants share ICU cover from Monday to Friday in an overlapping A / B pattern. Consultant A starts on Monday morning and is resident (as above) then non-resident oncall overnight. This consultant then hands over to consultant A for Tuesday, and stays until 12.30hrs as consultant B. This pattern is repeated by these two consultants. The weekend is shared by two consultants. Consultant A starts on Friday, resident from 07.45 to 21.00hrs, non-resident overnight, then hands over to consultant A on Saturday, and stays until 12.30hrs on Saturday as consultant B. This is repeated on Sunday. In addition to the overlapping A /B consultant, there is a resident consultant D, Monday to Friday, 07.35 to 20.30hrs to provide additional support to the unit. This consultant is not oncall overnight. The same consultant usually covers the D shift Monday to Thursday. Another consultant covers the D shift on Friday and then takes over as consultant A on Saturday. In summary, there are three resident consultants in the morning session, Monday to Friday, two resident consultants in the afternoon and evening sessions, Monday to Friday. There are two resident consultants in the morning session, Saturday and Sunday and one resident consultant in the afternoon and evening sessions, Saturday and Sunday. There is one non-resident oncall consultant every night. ECMO Consultant rota: There is an on-call rota of 1:8. In hours on-call duties are for ECMO/SRF referrals and retrievals only, out of hours on-call duties are for ECMO/SRF referrals, retrievals and oversight of the management of ECMO/SRF patients on AICU. |

- Staff must create an account, and then make an application under the relevant category, this will in most instances be 'Staff Permit Confirmation/New Application'.
- Staff are required to provide their assignment number and an upload a picture of their staff ID as part of the verification process. As a result, we advise new staff to complete an application only when they have this information.
- Once completed, staff are auto allocated points based on their responses in the application against a scoring matrix. Their points allocation determines where the staff member is placed on the waiting list for their base site. When available, permits are allocated from the waiting list to those with the highest points, on a first come first served basis.
- There is a waiting list at each site.
- Payment for permits are done via salary sacrifice, or in some instances paid via invoice.

- Available to medical staff covering AICU. It is located above AICU and includes showering facilities. Please make sure you leave this room as you find it and dispose of any used linen/towels in a white laundry bag.
