Overview

Theme: Obstetrics, Liver failure

A 23-year-old primi-gravida Vietnamese woman was admitted to the Maternity unit with per vaginal (PV) bleeding, nausea, vomiting and malaise at 35+5 weeks of pregnancy. She had a largely uneventful pregnancy until this point, with mild COVID-19 symptoms that had resolved. She delivered a healthy baby via normal vaginal delivery with an estimated blood loss of 400ml. However, her postpartum course quickly became concerning as she did not pass urine for three hours. After this, she passed only 50ml of urine over the next 12 hours, despite receiving 2 litres of Intravenous (IV) fluid.
