MOH is the leading cause of maternal morbidity (multi-organ failure; post-partum hysterectomy; PTSD) and mortality worldwide. The Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risks through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK (MBRRACE-UK) report, 2021 found MOH deaths were second only to venous thromboembolic disease in causing death.
