ICM Training
Kent Surrey and Sussex (KSS) covers a large geographic area of the south-east of England. There are a large number of District General Hospitals spread throughout the region, with the main teaching centre based in Brighton. Despite the large area, this is a region that is friendly and cohesive with a reputation for trying to ensure that resident doctors’ training needs are met in a realistic and manageable way.
Stage 1
The Royal Sussex County Hospital, East Surrey Hospital and Medway Hospital can all deliver ICM and anaesthesia training for Stage 1. Many other ICM Training centres in KSS can deliver stage 1 anaesthetic training and it may be possible to occasionally organise individual rotations to these.
East Surrey Hospital, Worthing Hospital, Medway Hospital and William Harvey Hospital can all deliver medicine training for Stage 1

Stage 3
The Royal Sussex County Hospital, The Royal Surrey County Hospital, East Surrey Hospital, William Harvey Hospital, Medway Hospital and the Conquest Hospital all offer stage 3 training. Please see their unit briefs for further details of what they can offer.
Dual & Triple CCT Training
At the moment around a third of ICM trainees are in the single specialty programme. The other two thirds are in dual training with Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Acute Internal Medicine, Renal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine. All these programmes are supported within KSS. The Intensive Care Medicine part of dual training will be delivered in the hospitals mentioned above, whilst the other part of the training may be delivered in other hospitals in the region. We are mindful of the geographical challenges that dual training can present and endeavour to tailor the rotations to take into account work-life balance, whenever possible.
